Karen Kresge

Karen Kresge has been a member of the Communication Design faculty since 1995. Her teaching responsibilities are primarily in the Graphic Design concentration. She regularly teaches Intro to Typography, Advanced Typography, Visual Translation, Corporate Identification, Corporate Publication, and Typeface Design. In addition, Professor Kresge is the internship coordinator for the Communication Design Department. She holds an MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She is chair of the College of Visual and Performing Arts Curriculum Committee and is the college’s representative to the University Curriculum Committee. She is the faculty advisor to the Kutztown University Chapter of AIGA, the professional organization for graphic design. She has organized many events and speakers for the Communication Design student body including workshops by Ken Barber and Ilene Strizver and lectures by Chip Kidd and local designers. She helps to organize the annual Designathon event, matching students with non-profits to provide free graphic services.
Prof. Kresge’s design pursuits are typographic in nature. She is currently working on a series of travel posters that feature monograms for a variety of locations. She is designing a typeface and continues to practice hand lettering.

Before beginning her teaching career, Prof. Kresge spent nearly 20 years working in the fields of publication design and graphic design. She taught at Burlington County Community College, Trenton State College and Tyler School of Art, Temple University. She was awarded many honors for her design work and remains active in the field. Presently, Professor Kresge’s professional work is mostly for non-profit concerns, creating branding, advertising and promotional graphics. She is a member of AIGA, the Philly Ad Club.
