Denise Bosler has been a member of the Communication Design Department since 2003. Her teaching responsibilities are primarily in Graphic Design and Illustration, but she has also taught Advertising courses. Denise holds an MFA in Design from Marywood University and a BFA in Communication Design from Kutztown University. She is department chair of Communication Design. In addition, she is the Chair for the KUCD Portfolio Review and assists with various other committees including Designation.
Professor Bosler’s research interests include the study of typography and current trends in graphic design. She was awarded a Kutztown University Research Grant to study the effects of typography in 20th and 21st century logo design. Part of this research includes studying the typography archives at the University of Reading, England. The University holds the largest typographic-based archives in the world. She is the author of Creative Anarchy, and Mastering Type: The Essential Guide to Typography for Print and Web Design, HOW books, 2015 and 2013 respectively. Professor Bosler was a featured speaker at the 2013 and 2015 HOW Design conference, an international design conference hosting 3000+ design professionals. She is also a contributing writer for Communication Arts magazine, PRINT magazine, HOW magazine and other graphic design related blogs.
Professor Bosler is the principal of an active freelance design business, BOSLER. She focuses her design work on print collateral, product packaging, and identity development in both print and digital projects. She is dedicated to creating custom typography, which she brings to the work she creates for her clients. Professor Bosler has produced numerous award-winning logo and packaging designs featuring hand-rendered and custom typography. She maintains memberships in University and College Designers Association and Type Director’s Club.
