Ann Lemon

Lemon is an internationally recognized art director, and one of the “3%” (only 3% of ad agency Creative Directors are female).

Her work was included in Communication Arts Magazine’s list of the 100 best pieces of graphic design or advertising of the 20th century. Her distinctive visual style has been applied across fashion, packaged goods, publishing, and Fortune 500 brands, with a special emphasis on products and services for women and families.

Lemon worked as an Art Director in many of New York’s best creative agencies, including Kirshenbaum and Bond, Doyle Graf Mabley and Chiat/Day, before becoming a Creative Director at Young & Rubicam, and then the Executive Creative Director of the romann group, a small agency.

In 2003 Ann joined the fledgling creative department of mcgarrybowen, which is now the largest independent ad agency in New York.  While there, she helped create national brand print and television campaigns for Marriott, Crayola and Verizon. She worked on the new business pitches that helped mb become the fastest-growing agency of the 21st century.

She is a frequent speaker to educators, ad clubs and design groups. She is the author of two books, Digital Design Toolbox for Beginners and The Little Big Idea Book, both from Kendall-Hunt publishing. She recently had a solo exhibition at Fresh AIR gallery in Columbus, Ohio, of her experimental, typographic work dealing with the topic of addiction and recovery.

Ann is a native of Richmond, Indiana. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware’s Visual Communications Department, a Masters in Education (English) from Kutztown University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Marywood University. She lives in Mohnton, Pennnsylvania, with her crafty husband, Dane, and arty son, Amos.

She has been a full-time faculty member at Kutztown University since 2011.
